I’ve been just doing a bit of this and that lately including kohlrabi leaf printing and ice dyeing.
Dave brought in some kohlrabi from the garden and I just had to play with those leaves again.
Here are the leaves I used.
Below are my finished prints from my printing session.
I plan to make a series of small quilts that include most of the leaves of the veggies Dave grows in the garden. I printed some of these last year but wanted some more so I had a bigger selection to choose from. Since I cut these out and add to the background, I don’t worry about any messes I make on the fabric.
In June I posted this picture of the ice dyed jacket that I had over ice dyed. Here is that post. I had worn this jacket on our vacation with Steve and Sharon. I told her I’d be happy to dye her one. I suggested that since she liked purple, I’d be glad to do one in purple. She said no, she wanted one just like this one. Well, if you’ve done any ice dyeing, there is no way I can make one exactly like this one. So when I got home, I washed it and mailed it to her.
I had purchased two of these jackets awhile back to dye, and I had really enjoyed wearing this light one so I dyed one for me with the exact same colors. Here is what it looks like. Quite a bit of difference!!
I focused on keeping the blue and yellow away from each other so I wouldn’t have so much green. I did over ice dye this one also by adding a little yellow to the blue at the top and then more yellow at the bottom. At first I wasn’t happy with all of the red, but I’m happy with it now. I’ll be wearing it this week when I travel to Alabama for a girls’ getaway.
I finally have gotten back outside working on some of my flower beds. The last two days I spent weeding and cleaning out my iris bed next to the shed. I put this one in last year, but I only had a few of the irises bloom. They all look healthy now, so hopefully they’ll all bloom next year. I put cardboard, 2 x 4s, and rock at the back of the bed. I haven’t decided it I’ll rock the whole thing. My main iris bed is rocked because it used to be the lavender area, and the irises don’t seem to mind. We’ll see.
This morning when I was getting the rock from the driveway to add to this bed, I noticed it was really foggy. It wasn’t when I first went out at 6 a.m. I ran in and got my phone and took pictures of the cemetery across the street. It was absolutely beautiful. I watched as the sun peeked through the fog.
As I mentioned on a previous post, I’m now writing on Substack. I’m writing about genealogy and just life in general. Last week’s post was about my decision to remain childless. Here is the link if you’d like to read it. My next post will go up later this week.
That’s all for now. Hope you are keeping cool. I said I’d never go to Alabama in August (I had in 2015 and it was so hot!), but here I am going!! Hope to see you all back here next week. As always, thanks for dropping by.
